Selector *= broken in Safari 3.2 and Chrome 1.0

Description
HTML Page DTD Type is declared as following
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-W3CDTD XHTML 1.1EN" "http:www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">
Javascript Code as following
$("#fp > option[text*='"+subject+"']").size();
return is 0 in Safari and Chrome but it sholud be 1
Where #fp is a <select>...</select> object
Works fine in IE7 and FireFox 3.0.5
How can I fix this line or is a bug?

I can't duplicate this on my end. If you can come up with a good test case that we can run please re-open the ticket - thanks!
