Datepicker not working with jquery 1.2.3 + FX

Description
ui.datepicker doesn't work with jquery 1.2.3...it doesn't appear though the div container is rendered (hidden) on the page. when fx are disabled this behavior disappears.
I know fx is alpha, but wonder if there is a fix.
