:last Selector is not giving the exact result...!!

Hi There, i got a defect in your code based on ":last selector". i am trying to get the last matched element of the table but your code is not working. My Code: <table border="1">

<tr>

<td> TD #0 </td> <td> TD #1 </td> <td> TD #2 </td>

</tr> <tr>

<td> TD #3 </td> <td> TD #4 </td> <td> TD #5 </td>

</tr> <tr>

<td> TD #6 </td> <td> TD #7 </td> <td> TD #8 </td>

</tr>

</table>

Script part: $("tr:last").css({ backgroundColor: "yellow", fontWeight: "bolder" });

It is not working properly :-( Note:- the below script is working fine with "td" tag. $("td:last").css("background-color", "purple"); Selects the last matched element.
