jquery-1.6.4 populates mobile datepicker input value on load, jquery-1.7.1 does not

Description
To reproduce, you can download the datepicker page
http://jquerymobile.com/demos/1.0a4.1/experiments/ui-datepicker/
and replace the jquery version with the later version jquery-1.7.1.js
the input value date that usually populates on page load to be today's date disappears.
