$("#myform :input").not("[value='']").serialize() does not exclude empty inputs

$("#myform :input[value!='']").serialize() doesn't work for this either. had to go back to using jquery 1.8

I will assume you were expecting that the
value=''would select inputs that were currently empty, as opposed to inputs that had specified an empty **initial** value. That is not per spec and why it was changed. But that is my assumption of what you mean by "doesn't work" so I will close this. Try the jQuery Migrate plugin with 1.9 if you are not using it already.
