AJAX .load() does not work when there is a script in the loaded fragment

Description
When I call .load to replace a content of <div> with an AJAX page fragment, if there is a <script> tag in the loaded fragment, it dies with an obscure error message, the fragment is not inserted into my <div> and the success handler isn't executed.

Because we get so many tickets, we often need to return them to the initial reporter for more information. If that person does not reply within 14 days, the ticket will automatically be closed, and that has happened in this case. Is the error message so obscure that it could not be copy/pasted into the bug report? Can you provide a test case please?
