.css('display') returns wrong value

Description

I have got a div with in inline-style definition for display. <div style="display:inline;">text</div>

Using jQuery inside an if-statement to check if display has the value "inline" returns always "block" as value.

if(jQuery(this).css('display')=='inline'){

alert('test'); jQuery(this).parent().next().hide();

} is never true
