Autocomplete not working in Firefox and IE

Description

The code given on this site as example for autocomplete works when tested on the page. It works if tested in Eclipse. But it doesn't work if written as a separated page and accessed in Firefox or IE. In IE, it says "Object doesn't support this property or method"

Would anyone know why?
