I spoke to the front-end team regarding this at the time the ticket was submitted and as the forum is powered by Zoho and that side of URL handling isn't completely in our control we'll be leaving this as-is for the time being. If it'll get fixed it will be done as a part of the site refresh coming out later in the year.
It would appear that queries such as the above and http://forum.jquery.com/search/%3E etc have a way of breaking the forum site's search layout. Can someone confirm whether this is an issue with ZoHo (ie. something we may not be able to fix) or whether we can correct the problem? It's a minor bug.
