Regarding the tags <p></p> and its interference

Hi,
Im wondering if you can help me, Im messing around with oscommerce and i recently put in image slider.

I dont know if the issue and the slider are related but as you can see in the image, at the top is the slider, its opacity has obviously been adjusted for the image behind it. Now anything on my main page that is tagged <p></p> gets put in a similar opacity box? Is there is a way to change it so that it doesnt do that to the tags?
