.remove() and .empty() are taxing

Description

These two methods (and .html(), which uses .empty()) have a severe number of method calls (it gets sucked in to calling .data() when it isn't necessary). This should be cleaned up.

Fixed in SVN rev [6253].

Please follow the  bug reporting guidlines and use  jsFiddle when providing test cases and demonstrations instead of pasting the code in the ticket.
