tablesorter doesn't parse large numbers with commas correctly

I am currently using the tablesorter plugin with a set of data that includes values in the thousands and the sorter doesn't appear to parse numbers with (,) accurately. See attached example

    This table taken from one of the tablesorter examples and contains large number values that include commas
