Non-specific issue with 1.7.1

Description

I've noticed an issue with the latest version of jQuery in both Chrome and Firefox that could be troublesome. Firefox simply points out the issue when you do certain things like inspecting the code in a page, but Chrome locks up. I suspect the issue itself is something either related to a plugin that is not compatible with this latest version of jQuery, or the possibility that the browsers themselves are subject to choke points brought on by other incompatibilities.

In any event the issue only seems to occur in sites using using WP 3.3+, and only when an attempt is made to use browser development tools to inspect code.

A couple of examples where I have seen this issue occur are:

I will be posting the issue over at wp.org, as well as jQuery.com in an effort to determine if this really is a bug.

Just a heads up...

Jan C.

Thanks for submitting a ticket to the jQuery bug tracker. If possible, could you provide us with a test case that isn't tied down to any specific sites, ideally on jsFiddle.com that can reproduce the behaviour you're experiencing?

At the moment, without this, we may have to close this ticket as there are a) far too many plugins being used on those pages for us to determine what is causing the issue and b) if a plugin is incompatible with a version of jQuery it is the responsibility of the author of the plugin to patch this.

On at least one of the sites mentioned, they're using a version of jQuery that's older than the current stable so perhaps thats something to also factor in.
