Problem with fadeIn and fadeOut on an iPod

I've written a slide show using jQuery that runs fine on PC, Firefox and IE, Mac, Safari and Firefox. But the fade in and fade out don't work on an iPod. The old image drops instantaneously to partial opacity, then the new image appears instantaneously. No fade out. No fade in.

I'm using  http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.min.js as my source for jQuery.

In order for us to assist further, please provide us with a reduced test case outside of your slideshow component (on jsFiddle.net) which demonstrates the behaviour described breaking. If a member of the team is then able to debug/confirm the issue on the iPod, we will do our best to assist further if possible.
